Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 18, 2026
1. Overview
Dottie Desktop is designed with privacy as a core principle. This policy explains what data is collected, how it's used, and your choices.
2. Local Model Usage
When using local AI models (via Ollama or compatible runtimes), all data processing happens entirely on your device. No conversations, files, or screen content are transmitted to any external server. Dottie works fully offline in this mode.
3. Cloud Provider Usage
When you choose to use cloud AI providers (Grok, etc.), your prompts and context are sent to those providers for processing. Each provider has its own privacy policy governing data retention and usage. We do not store or log any data sent to cloud providers.
4. Data We Collect
Dottie Desktop collects:
- Nothing by default. No telemetry, no analytics, no crash reports are sent without your consent.
- API keys you provide — stored locally on your device in your configuration file. Never transmitted to us.
- Conversation history — stored locally on your device. Never transmitted to us.
5. Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or have access to: your conversations, your files, your screen content, your voice recordings, your API keys, or any personally identifiable information.
6. Sandbox Security
Dottie's tool execution runs inside a sandbox with domain-gated network access and read-only filesystem defaults. These boundaries are enforced at the system level to protect your data.
7. Third-Party Services
If you use cloud AI providers, their privacy policies apply to data sent to their services. We recommend reviewing their policies before providing API keys.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be noted in release notes.
